What is GATE Examination?
GATE or Graduation Aptitude Test in Engineering is a national level online examination held in February every year. The examination is held to select candidates for pursuing postgraduate and doctoral programmes in engineering, architecture and sciences. The candidates who have completed four years’ B. E/ B. Tech and two years’ M. Sc programmes may appear for GATE to pursue higher studies in IITs, IISC, NITs and other reputed universities of the country. The exam is taken on various disciplines of engineering, architecture and science subjects like: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Life Sciences, Microbiology, Nutrition and Food Technology and Computer Application. In GATE 2020, ‘Biomedical Engineering’ has been included in the list of GATE subjects. GATE examination is designed to test the students’ comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the specific subject in which they want to specialize. GATE qualified candidates receive a scholarship of Rs. 35,000-40,000 per month and an annual stipend of Rs. 1-2 lakhs.
Certain foreign universities like: Aachen University (Germany), Technical University of Munich, National University of Singapore and Nan yang Technical University (Singapore) accept GATE scores. This means GATE qualified students may apply to these universities abroad. Again, some PSUs accept GATE scores to select candidates for jobs.

GATE Exam Dates
Every Year GATE examination is conducted either by one of the seven IITs or IISC Bangalore. GATE 2020 will be conducted by IIT Delhi. GATE examination is held for 3 hours duration. However, to appear for GATE 2020, the candidates are required to fill up GATE Registration and Application form. These forms can be filled up by visiting GOAPS. Recently, IIT Delhi has published GATE 2020 Exam Dates. The process of filling up registration and application form has begun from 3rd September and will continue till 24th September 2019. But the extended date of filling up registration and application form, paying a late fee is 1st October. 2019. GATE 2020 will be held on 1st, 2nd, 8th and 9th February respectively. The admit card of GATE 2020 will be issued on 3rd January. The candidates can download the admit cards from the official website of GATE. Ten days after the examination, the answer keys will be published. The result will be published on 16th March 2020. The counseling procedure will begin in April.
