Uses of Ice Cube Trays, Aside from Making Ice

An ice tray (ที่ ทำ น้ำแข็ง, which is the term in Thai) is one of the most useful tools in the kitchen. It can be helpful in many ways aside from the intended purpose — making ice.

Here are some great uses for your ice trays, aside from making ice:

Preserve Fresh Herbs

Leftover fresh herbs can be preserved by freezing them for later use. You can freeze herbs like Thyme, Herbs, like rosemary, oregano, etc. And keep them in olive oil.

 Freeze Small Amounts of Stock

Freeze leftover stock instead of letting them get lost in the back of your fridge. You can take the individual cubes as you need them, and the small size helps them thaw quickly.

Preserve Wine for cooking

Leftover wine isn’t something that is mostly encountered. But, if you do, freezing it to cook with later would be a better idea. The alcohol stops it from freezing entirely, but the cubes are solid enough to pop out and transfer to another container.

 Make Coffee Ice Cubes

You do not have to dispose of the remnant coffee that is sitting in the pot, you can preserve it in the freezer using an ice cube tray. Coffee ice cubes will keep your iced coffee strong till the last sip.

 Stock Up on Baby Food

If you make your baby food, ice cube trays are the perfect portion size to freeze it for later.

Organize Your Junk Drawer

You could buy a fancy organizer, but an ice cube tray is a more straightforward, cheaper option to control your junk.

Save Excess Egg Whites

If you just made a recipe that uses a lot of egg yolks, you don’t have to dispose of the whites. Egg whites freeze well and keep almost forever.
